Shaun Chamberlin discusses Surviving the Future: Culture, Carnival and Capital in the Aftermath of the Market Economy, a recently-published companion piece to Lean Logic: A Dictionary for the Future and How to Survive It, the life’s work of British Economist David Fleming.

When Fleming died unexpectedly in 2010, he left behind his great unpublished work, a masterpiece more than thirty years in the making. In it, he examined the consequences of an economy that destroys the very foundations – ecological, economic, and cultural – upon which it is built. Knowing that collapse is the only possible outcome he asked, and envisioned, “What will follow?”
Compiled by Fleming’s close friend and collaborator Shaun Chamberlin, Surviving the Future presents Fleming’s insights in a more easily digestible form. Fleming foresaw the schisms and convulsions now shaking the economies of Europe, and was among the first in the world to reveal the ongoing pressure on oil supply and predict the subsequent growth in unconventional oil and gas, with all its consequences. Fleming acknowledges, with honesty, the challenges we face. But rather than inducing despair, Lean Logic and Surviving the Future inspire optimism in the creativity and intelligence of humans to nurse our ecology back to health, and to rediscover the importance of resilience, community, and culture.
The shocks converging on our world will leave nothing in our lives unchanged. We cannot now avoid it, but it can be managed, mitigated, made survivable, and recognised as our species’ toughest, but greatest, opportunity.

Joel Caris discusses his new quarterly magazine Into The Ruins, and the doubtful future of industrial society. Modern industrial civilization is a mode of existence which most of us take for granted. The abundant food, supercharged sanitation, endless entertainment, and constellation of other seemingly unlimited choices laid before us is rarely questioned, and its complexities are poorly understood. But in our headlong charge to consume more of everything whatever the cost, we have set in motion a chain of events which is currently cascading towards catastrophe.

Hollywood movies favour doomsday scenarios such as meteor strikes, nuclear wars, and the ever-popular plagues of zombie apocalypse, but everyday disasters are likely to be localized and much more mundane. They are also much more likely to actually occur. In a world of political, economic, and social upheaval, environmental destruction, climate chaos, and rampant resource conflicts, only the foolhardy or insane would insist ‘It can’t happen here!’ The good news is that with a little time, study, and forward planning, almost anyone anywhere can begin to take a few basic steps to help ensure that they, their loved ones, and their community ride out the coming storms, whenever and wherever they strike.

The recent Brexit referendum in the UK was never meant to happen. The result of a miscalculated attempt by former British Prime Minister David Cameron to neutralize the right wing UK Independence Party, Brexit has plunged the nation into a constitutional crisis. While 48% of the electorate voted for the UK to remain within the European Union, 52% voted to leave. As a result, the country is now deeply divided, and the rancour of a bitterly fought campaign has merely intensified since the outcome became clear. The total lack of planning for a vote to quit the EU is also starkly evident in the chaotic in-fighting and back-stabbing that has marred the political aftermath. So just how did this unintended mayhem come about?

Peter Baumann discusses his new album Machines of Desire, and his long career in and outside music. From 1971 to 1977 Peter Baumann was part of what many consider to be the definitive line-up of German electronic music pioneers Tangerine Dream, contributing to classic albums such as Phaedra, Rubycon, and Ricochet. Although he continued to record for several years thereafter, much of his subsequent activity has revolved around socio-political realms. Since the early 2000s, Peter has devoted much of his time to studying and promoting initiatives in science and philosophy that shed light on the human condition. This has included work with the California Institute of Integral Studies, the Mind and Life Institute, and his own Baumann Foundation. In 2011 he co-authored the book Ego: The Fall of the Twin Towers and the Rise of an Enlightened Humanity, before finally returning to music in 2016 with Machines of Desire, his first full album since 1983.

Courtney Brown & Princess Jeaneé discuss remote viewing and the Farsight Institute’s recent project Martin Luther King, Jr: The Dream, The Man, The Death. During the first half of the show we talk about remote viewing and psychic phenomena in general, the mind-matter interface, and emerging awareness of the interconnectedness and interdependence which shapes reality and which is set to scrap our sometimes outdated scientific paradigms. Such a shift has the power to revolutionise human affairs, human potential, and the very course of evolution on Earth. It is nothing less than the redirection of an entire civilization.

Frank Landis gives his first ever interview about his book ‘Hot Earth Dreams: What if Severe Climate Change Happens, and Humans Survive?’ What will the Earth look like if severe climate change happens, and humans survive? It’s not an easy question to contemplate, let alone answer. If severe climate change happens, the Earth will continue to warm for centuries after we’ve exhausted our fossil fuels. Civilization will shatter, the great artworks and monuments vanishing as cities fall into rubble and coasts disappear beneath rising seas. There will be mass extinctions, coral reefs and ice sheets will vanish, and the survivors will migrate to new homes and habitats for generations as the climate continually changes. Only after hundreds of thousands of years will the climate to return to what we currently consider normal.

We live in a world of illusion, a realm of the unreal. The primal impulses and drives so central to our being – for meaning, purpose, oneness, and love – are diminished and driven out amid the avalanche of disinformation, duplicity and deceit under which we labour, day in, day out. Our culture has become corrupted, our instincts corroded, and the very idea of truth lost in a sea of lies. Many among us think that it has always been so; still others see a species simply gone astray, forlornly searching once more for the way from which we wandered on some fateful day.

Reece Girven discusses the deception at the heart of our debt-based monetary system, and the Quantar Trading Network, a radical new concept designed to replace it. From the age of the goldsmiths to the present day, the modern banking model has been transformed from a simple safe-keeping service into a monstrous money-from- nothing Ponzi scheme. What was once commodity-based currency now exists largely as little more than mere numbers on a computer screen. And where once banks could lend only that which their customers deposited, loans are now created from thin air on a whim and at a keystroke. Known as fractional reserve banking, the lending at interest of money that does not exist is now out of control, and day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute, the global debt mountain continues to grow.

Amit Goswami discusses his book Quantum Economics – Unleashing the Power of an Economics of Consciousness. In view of the 2007/2008 global economic meltdown and the financial chaos that has followed in its wake, it’s obvious that the current economic systems are not working. But economists don’t have a clue about how to successfully modify the existing models. Meanwhile, political institutions around the world are bogged down in paralysis and conflict, and still see only the same old ineffective methods for dealing with the crisis: either the demand side or the supply side model of government intervention.
