David Birch discusses some of the ideas in Pandora’s Book: 401 Philosophical Questions to Help You Lose Your Mind (With Answers).

(Stream / download audio at bottom of page)

Philosophy is the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence. Although generally considered an academic discipline, all of us at some point in our lives engage in philosophical reflection, often in times of change or crisis. This turn inward sees the mental bandwidth normally occupied by everyday banalities given to thoughts of meaning and purpose in life, and may result in profound personal growth. However, mainstream education, committed as it is to churning out obedient workers and compliant consumers, does not encourage deep meditation on life’s big questions. If it did, few of us would be living the lives we now lead.

About the question on what’s difference between NPCs and non NPCS; don’t know if this will help but I was thinking a while ago about people who benefits from the struggle or from the actions of others while never participating in anything meaningful. I was thinking about those people who just sit around and let things happen without actually doing anything. Is there a word for them? Do they exist?

Like the RAW reference about the Society of Research for Claims of the Normal. (something like that) Are there actually people out there who’s world view fits perfectly in the ¨normal¨ world view? Do some people sincerely believe reality is what politicians or the newscaster tells them it is? People who truly like the number 1 hit on the radio? (does that still exist?)Are there people who actually fallow fashion trends and are compelled by the news appearing on the most mainstream website? Who truly are happy and fulfilled with the house, the 2.5 kids, the pool and the 9 to 5? Are there people who actually participate in society without ever, not even once, question anything?

I listen to a lot of alternative view points but I’m curious to know who’s the most sincere non alternative person out there? I’d kinda like to have a chat with that person, but that might be too scary. Maybe that’s the closest thing to a NPC.

I think you could be correct in your conclusion, or at least such people could fit into a NPC category depending on how it is defined. People who create nothing – in any meaningful definition of creativity – definitely exist. “Are there people who actually participate in society without ever, not even once, question anything?” Apparently so, although they are not really participating.
